ETIAS, The Electronic Travel Permit for Europe

ETIAS (Europe Travel Information and Authorisation System) travel authorization (not a visa) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals traveling to any of these 30 European Countries:



What's the purpose of ETIAS?

ETIAS works by screening passengers arriving in the Schengen Area from third countries, in order to protect against potential threats and ensure the integrity of Schengen’s external borders, data will be collected and assessed before passengers travel to Europe.

Who needs an ETIAS Travel Authorization?

Nationals of any visa-exempt countries that are planning to visit for a short-term stay (up to 90 days in any 180-day period). This is in addition to any other document required for entry by each country. In the case of us U.S. Citizens, we need to request this authorization in addition to using our passport for entry. People who wish to stay long-term or work in Europe need to apply for a visa.

This requirement will begin in effect, some time in 2024.

How long does it take to get it and how long does it last for?


Most applications are processed within minutes. In any other case, you will receive a decision within four days. This approval period could be extended up to 30 days if you are invited for an interview. This authorization is valid for three (3) years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. What do I get once it is approved?


You will receive an email confirming the submission of your application and will include your unique ETIAS application number, which you should kept for future reference. Your passport must be valid for three (3) months after your intended departure from the EU country requiring ETIAS.


How much does it cost?

The application fee is 7 EUR and applicants under 18 or over 70 years old are exempt from this fee.
